How To: African Braid Hairstyle

In this brief tutorial, you’ll learn a beautiful and simple African braid.

Instructions:

Greetings. I’m Maryam Ebrahimpour. I’m a hairstyle expert and instructor. I’m here today with a hair braid tutorial.

The item we’re going to talk about today is an African braid. African braids are usually done close to the scalp. For shorter hair, we braid the whole length of hair, but for longer hair lengths,
We usually cover from one ear to the other. There are different patterns of braids you can do. Here, I’ll start with a simple one and later you can look around for more complicated ones yourself.

Separate a layer of hair and split it into three parts. If we want the braid to be more noticeable, we have to braid the hair from the inside, but if we want to see the braid from inside, then we should braid on the surface. I’ll braid the hair from below.

Bring the right layer under the middle layer and do the same for the left one. Now we have to add a new layer of hair to the right layer bring it under the middle layer and braid it. Again, add a new layer to the right layer and bring it under the middle layer and braid. Use your thumb to hold the left layer to prevent it from getting loose. Add another layer to the right layer, bring it under the middle layer and braid the hair. We have to continue this process until the end. We have to do this until the back of the head and tie it.

For African braid, you have to brush the hair and since hair strands have different sizes on the bangs, you must use hair styling products to pull the hair together. I separated another thin layer on the side of the previous braid and split it into three smaller sections. Start braiding from bellow. Add a new layer to the right layer and put it under the middle layer. Again, add a new layer to the right layer, bring it under the middle layer, braid, and pull it tight. You can either continue your braid and tie it at the end of the hair, or just tie it here.

I’ll separate another layer of the hair. I’ll braid it like before. How thick or thin the hair layers are depends on our choice. To have a beautiful braid, your layers should be at most two fingers thick. I’ll separate another layer from the bangs and separate it into smaller parts. Braid it the same way you did before. Add another layer to the right layer, bring it under the middle layer and braid the hair. The braids could be designed based on the form of the face. We can design our braid in a way that suits all types of faces.

African braids aren’t suitable for people with long faces. We can tweak our braiding style to hide unsatisfying facial characteristics. Some people like this braid on the side of their hair and either weave their hair or brush it. Braiding is one of the most beautiful hair designs, which give the hair a special beauty, and makes the wearer look more elegant. I’ll separate a new layer of hair, separate it into three parts, and start braiding the hair from behind. Braid it the same way as before. Add another layer to the right layer, bring it under the middle layer and braid the hair. For each layer on the right, we have to add a new layer and bring it to the middle and braid the hair. I’ll finish the braid here and use a hairband to tie the hair. Be careful to use a strong hairband so it doesn’t rip after your tie the hair. If you think your hairband might break, use two hairbands to make sure the hair won’t get loose.

We can even braid the hair until the end of the strand and brush the rest of the hair. If you want to do a chignon, you can braid the hair and use the braided hair in your chignon.

This tutorial is now over. I’ve used small flowers on the top of each braid. You can also braid the hair on both sides completely, or just pull the hair on the sides and brush it to the back. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you like to join our chignon and braiding classes, please contact us at the numbers provided in the description. Until next time, goodbye.
