In this tutorial, we will show you the step-by-step process of a layered haircut.
The haircut I want to show you today is considered a Tai Chi cut, which is usually considered a fantasy cut. These types of haircuts are usually performed using a machine cutter as well as some shearing. I will separate a part of the hair and then use my machine cutter to cut some of the hair. Start on the side right on top of the arch of the eyebrows or the side of the ear to cut the hair. If you look closely, you can see that we are cutting the hair in a ninety-degree angle. We can even hold the hair vertically like this or hold it horizontally. However, you have to cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle.
The hair on this model is not quite enough to show you the style, but on a client, you should always cut in a ninety-degree angle to get an even cut. If you look closely, you can see that the cut goes diagonally until below the left ear. The whole hair must be cut in a ninety-degree angle, with the same size and angle, without leaving a trace on the hair after the cut. On this model head, since the hair is made of synthetic material, the cut might look unnatural or uneven, but on natural hair, you can be sure to have an even, beautiful cut. Separate another layer of hair and cut it diagonally in a sixty-degree angle.
Separate the next layer and cut it diagonally. You can even use scissors for this cut or just use the cutter. I will use both a cutter and scissors for you to see. I will use my scissor to cut the next part diagonally in sixty-degree angle to prevent leaving a trace after the cut. Again, use the previous cut as a guide and cut the hair diagonally in a sixty-degree angle. However, to cut the majority of the hair and reduce the volume, we should try to use a cutter because a cutter will cut the hair evenly in all areas but scissors might still leave a trace after the cut. Still, for the top of the hair I can still use both machine cutters and scissors. Separate another layer of hair but this time cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle. Therefore, we will cut the top in a ninety-degree angle because we still need to shear a few centimeters of hair at this area as well to get this style. Since we are working on synthetic hair, you cannot see the effect of the cut, but on natural hair, you will see how the hair will slide beautifully.
Now let’s cut the next part in a ninety-degree angle. Only the hair on the side of the ears is left. Let’s cut this part diagonally in a sixty-degree angle. How we cut, this part depends on our choicel. We can cut it shorter or leave it stay long. For the next part, I am going to cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle instead. This is the layer I use as a guide and now I can cut the hair accordingly. Same for the next part. Cut in a ninety-degree angle according to the guide. This part is also finished and only the front remains. The front also depends on whether the client prefers her hair to be longer or shorter. Nevertheless, for this model, I will take one layer from the side, combine it with another layer from the front, and cut diagonally and for the rest of the layers I will cut them shorter.
Hold the hair in a zero degree angle, hold the guide in your hand and cut the hair. For the top of the head, I will use my guide and cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle. Use the guide and cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle again. Hold the next layer and cut the hair in a ninety-degree angle. For the last part, we will hold the hair in a ninety-degree angle and cut the hair using the guide. To check the hair, hold it from the side in a ninety-degree angle, check with your guide and then cut the hair. Hold the next layer and check to see if there is any trace from the previous cut and if there is, cut that part using your scissor.
